What can I say about the above, except what do you know, now that I have all the time in the world to create I find myself catching up on all the other things I need to do, such as gardening, housework, decluttering, schooling the kidz, reading etc But I am also creating: I have started three courses, one about social media platforms, one on learning more about art processes and one on abstract art. I will endeavour to write and share more about them as I progress through the courses.

The first lesson I am learning is that to be considered a professional artist, it is not the amount of sales you have, although that is great if it is happening to you without the next step but it is the next piece of info that I will share that is the key to becoming a successful artist:

You have to make time for your art, to create on a daily basis, to get yourself into the art room/studio whether you feel like it or not. It does not matter if the house looks like the local tip, the kidz are begging to be home schooled, the garden needs a machete to get through it, your book is jumping into your lap….make time to do your art EVERY SINGLE DAY, even if it is just an hour!

Want to know how to do this with all of the above begging for your attention!

Just get to your art space, and here it is on a slightly lighter note: put your music on and just start to gesso a couple of canvasses, or work on a few thumbnails, draw up a grid, or practise some gestural blind contour drawings with charcoal, mix up some acrylic or resin pours and then before you know it, just by making a start on something, you will be hooked and your family will be lucky to see you again that day!
