We’re excited to restart a special round of art classes for Term 2 Only – 11 Weeks, including sessions during the school holidays. These classes are open to all experience levels and will run from this Thursday 22nd May to 31st July, held at the back of the gallery in my revamped art space. PLEASE NOTE: the front of the gallery is now run by Spirits of The Didge, so please come round to the back entrance to come to class. Parking is in the parking lot opposite the Library

🖼️ Course Overview

Weeks 1–6: Mixed Media Portraits & Animal Portraits for all my Kidz, youth and Adults | All Skill Levels Welcome 

Explore expressive and imaginative art-making with a focus on portraits—both human and animal. Using art journals or provided canvasses, you’ll learn to layer various materials like paint, ink, collage, and more. Each session includes a demonstration and guided techniques to help you discover your unique style.

In the first six weeks of our creative journey, we’ll explore the vibrant and expressive world of mixed media art with a special focus on portraits—both human and animal. These sessions are designed to spark imagination while gently guiding participants through artistic techniques in a fun, inclusive environment.

Each week, I will demonstrate a new technique or theme to build confidence and skill. Using our art journals or provided canvasses, we’ll dive into layering techniques using a variety of materials—acrylic paint, ink, pastel, collage, pencil, stencils, and more.

What to Expect:

• Learn how to create expressive faces and animal features using shape, color, and texture

• Discover how to mix and layer different mediums for bold, dynamic results

• Experiment with creative mark-making and brushwork

• Gain confidence in composition, color use, and storytelling through art

• Plenty of room for personal interpretation and playful expression!

This phase is about building artistic freedom while introducing essential portraiture concepts in a low-pressure, creative way. Expect vibrant, character-filled artworks by the end of each session.

Weeks 7–11: Realism Artworx

Shift into a more focused and refined artistic practice as we dive into realism. From grayscale underpaintings and blocking in forms to the final detail work, you’ll complete artworks from start to finish while learning professional-level approaches to observation and technique.

For Kindi to 9/10 years of age

In our kidz classes (Kindy to Year 6), I will design activities that support each child’s developmental stage:

• For schematic-age kids, we focus on imagination, storytelling, and exploration of materials.

• For dawning realism students, we gently introduce techniques like observation drawing, shading, and structure—always in a fun, supportive way.

The goal is not to force realism too early, but to build confidence and joy in art—so each child feels proud of what they create.

For Ages 10+ | Intermediate Focus and my Adults

In the second half of the term, we’ll shift our focus to the more refined techniques of realism. This series is ideal for those who are ready to take their art skills to the next level, whether you’re a curious beginner

ready to try more structured methods or an experienced artist looking to refine your process.

We will work through the entire process of creating a realistic artwork, from the planning stage to the final details, learning how to see and recreate what’s in front of us with accuracy and depth.

Core Concepts Covered:

• Grayscale underpainting: Understand values, shading, and light before applying color

• Blocking in: Learn how to simplify shapes and build a strong composition early

• Final passes: Develop patience and skill with detail work, edges, highlights, and finishing touches

Using reference images (either provided or chosen by the students), participants will complete one or more finished pieces during this 5-week block, gaining insight into how professional artists approach realism from start to finish.

This is a fantastic way to elevate your understanding of form, proportion, and depth while creating truly impressive work you’ll be proud of.

🎨 Adult Morning Class

Time: 10:30 AM – 1:00 PM
Cost: $40 per session or $385 upfront for 11 weeks
Ideal For: Adults of all skill levels wanting to explore or deepen their artistic practice

👧 Kidz Art Class (Kindy – Year 6)

Time: 4:00 PM – 5:15 PM
Cost: $25 per session or $220 upfront for 11 weeks
Details: A playful and educational space for young artists to experiment, create, and grow. Hands-on projects each week in their own designated workshop area.

👦 Youth Art Class (Upper Primary & High School)

Time: 4:00 PM – 5:15 PM
Cost: $25 per session or $220 upfront for 11 weeks
Details: A separate, age-appropriate workshop space tailored for older students, focusing on skill-building, individual expression, and more advanced techniques.

🌙 Evening Adult Class

Time: 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Cost: $45 per session or $440 upfront for 11 weeks
Perfect For: Adults who want a creative outlet after work—come unwind and explore your creativity in a guided, inspiring environment.
